Woke up early again and attended synagogue with Michael who led
Passover morning services. There were a few people from the community
in attendance there and it was a cute synagogue with a family like
community. We then had lunch at Michaels, his wife, Olga, made the
food and were too tired to attend the Hermitage Museum so we opted
to go shopping for souvenirs instead. We knew we would have time
for the Museum at another point. The afternoon came and went and
we headed to the airport to fly to Murmansk.
We arrived into Murmansk at 10:30 p.m. and it was still light out
with a ton of snow on the ground. It looked as I had imagined it
to, with barren trees and snow covering the ground. We could not
believe how light it was at 10:30 at night and we had to take pictures
and gasp for moments after we landed about it. We met the director
of the community, Yuli, at the one gate airport. He did not speak
one word of English which was not a surprise since we were in such
a small town, very northern Russia and we were thankful Zina was
with us. We drove one hour from the airport to the center of town
where our hotel was. The drive was beautiful, the area was desolate
and quiet with snow. Our hotel really was in the center of town,
even though it looked like a small area, there are a lot of people
that live in Murmansk. Around 11:30 when we went to eat dinner at
the hotel the sun was just beginning to set and we still were amazed
about that. The food was yuck! We were so tired that at that point
it did not much matter we could not wait to be horizontal and close
our eyes to go to sleep.
