Day Seven in Russia
Monday, April 17th, 2006

This morning we woke up and headed to the Shorashim school where we led three programs in a row. The first one was for eighth graders. It was a total disaster and they were loud and hard to get quiet. We ended up leading a discussion with them that in the end was the best we could do. The second program we ran was absolutely amazing. It was first through fourth graders (about one hundred of them in total). We ended up telling the story of the Exodus live where we asked for volunteers to be Moses, the Israelites, the slaves, etc. They had to all help us act out the plagues in their seats while we threw around plastic frogs, hail, insects, etc. The rabbi was the Pharoah and the kids had to volunteer to try and get him to let the Israelites go. It was a riot and the kids loved it. It was one of the most successful programs we led. After Pharoah let us go, the kids had to walk through a pretend Red Sea that we built and received candy and stickers. It was a fun program. The third program was our last seder and it was for sixth graders. They were such sweethearts and at this point all of us were DONE, even the rabbi. We had a blast with them singing songs and acting goofy. IT was really a fun way to end the seder part of our visit.
We went out for lunch after this and then visited Peter Pail Fortress built by Peter the Great and the cathedral inside. We walked around, took the metro back, rested and met Zina for dinner later that night. Micol, a classmate of mine was in Moscow and met us in St. Petersburg tonight. We all headed to Café Zoom a restaurant with couches and pillows and comfy sitting areas and great food. We were supposed to go out afterwards but unfortunately Josh lost his wallet and we all decided to call it quits, which was fine because we were exhausted.
