The Proposal of Julia Aronson and David Weisz

It was a cold and stormy night. Oh wait, sorry, wrong story.

It was a clear and toasty afternoon in Dallas, Texas when David finally asked the question everyone's been waiting for: "What street is Mattito's on???" Thankfully, David managed to find this and all the other important places in Dallas that he and Julia had spent time at over the last two and a half years. Below is the story of how it all came to be...

The Ring

David had known for quite some time that he and Julia were meant to be together. So after making an optometrist appointment near his old hometown in Orange County, California, he arranged to spend some extra time in the area and visit a jeweler as well. This was not David's first time to visit this particular jeweler. Ken has been working with the Winston family (David's second family) for over 10 years, and while accompanying his best friend Mike to pick up his wedding rings in March, David had already done some research. So this time, he knew exactly what he, and she, wanted.

The Plan

Before finding the ring, David had already hatched a brilliant plan to propose to Julia. She had already decided to be home in Dallas for her birthday in June, so David thought he would surprise her at home and propose to her in the city that first witnessed their love. The problem was, this meant that David had to keep the ring a secret for over two months! Very few people knew about the plan for fear that somehow Julia would find out!

Just two weeks before her birthday, Julia and David spent the weekend with Julia's mom Emily and stepfather Dan in San Diego, California. While Julia took some time for one of her favorite activities (napping), David snuck over to speak with Emily and Dan about his plan. They were thrilled to hear the news, and promised that they could keep the secret until it was time to propose. Two days later, just after he returned from his honeymoon in Costa Rica, David called Julia's dad Randy and spoke with him about the plans. He too was very excited, and promised that he would do his best to come to Dallas from Arizona to celebrate with the couple.

The Day Of

David had flown in the day before and met up with his mom, Vera, who was also in on the surprise. The morning of Julia's birthday, they went out and bought one dozen red roses. To six individual ones, David affixed a poetic clue he had written, directing Julia to a place in Dallas that they had spent time together. To the other six, which were wrapped together, David affixed the first clue, letting her know that while six roses were lovely, she deserved another six, and that he could be found holding the last rose.

While Emily distracted Julia at the gym, David and Vera then dropped the clues off all over town, making sure that at each location, someone knew that tall, beautiful girl named Julia would come looking for the rose. They went to Julia's old sorority house, then to The Cheesecake Factory, the Radisson Hotel, Mattito's Restaurant, the Hyatt Regency Hotel, and then finally, Reunion Tower, the site of Julia and David's first date. Here David began to wait, ring in his pocket, for the love of his life.

Meantime, Julia finished getting ready for her "birthday lunch" with Emily and Dan. As she opened the door to leave, she discovered six roses on her doorstep with a note from David. With a knowing smile, Emily and Dan guided her to the car and the three began Julia's scavenger hunt through Dallas.

About an hour later, the elevator doors finally opened on the 40th floor of Reunion Tower, and Julia emerged onto the observation deck of the tower. There, David found her and presented her with her final rose, and then her final clue. As David looked on, Julia read through the clue and then screamed "Yes!" David, totally caught off-guard, responded "But wait, I haven't asked you anything yet." Julia, pointing to the clue in her hand, answered, "Yes you did, right here it says 'Will you please be my wife!'"

David, never one to be outdone by a written note, then smiled and, getting down on one knee, said something romantic which cannot be remembered by either party, though obviously expressed his love for Julia and his desire to spend the rest of his life with her. He then presented her with the ring which, with the help of a little saliva, made it onto Julia's finger. The appropriate hugs and kisses were exchanged, and the happy couple then went back to the elevator to find some lunch.

Taking a quick ride up one more flight from the observation deck, Julia and David entered the revolving restaurant Antares, situated high above the Dallas skyline. As they walked around the corner towards their table, Julia saw her final surprise: her dad and David's mom waiting for her at the table.

Since that time, our lives have been nothing but excitement: moving to Israel, Julia starting rabbinic school, and moving in together for the first time. We're so thankful for our friends and family who have been a part of our relationship over the last (almost) three years, and we're excited to take this next step together!
